BHP Billiton Aluminium West Coast Arterial Intersection upgrade
BHP Billiton Aluminium SA proposes to upgrade the West Central Arterial (WCA) Intersection with the John Ross Parkway (P496) in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal and construct a new link road between the two roads.
At present, solid and molten metal are transported between the Hillside Smelter, the Harbour and the Bayside Smelter using the existing public roads. The proposed upgrade of the WCA Intersection with the P496 will reduce the safety risks associated with transporting the molten aluminium by reducing the potential for road traffic incidents to occur along the route, particularly at the intersection of the WCA and the P496.
