Langebaan 4 Special Forces Boat House Facility

The Department Public Works (DPW) is constructing a new boat house facility for the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) at the Donkergat Military Base near Langebaan. The due environmental process was not followed as the construction of the boat house triggered activities listed in Regulations 386 of National Environmental Management Act (NEMA) (Act No. 107 of 1998) requiring a Basic Assessment (BA). A BA was not undertaken and construction thus commenced without environmental authorization. Arcus GIBB (Pty) Ltd (GIBB), independent environmental consultants, was appointed by the DPW to undertake a Section 24G Application.
