PROPOSED INSTALLATION OF MASTS FOR CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION (CCTV) CAMERAS ALONG PORTIONS OF THE N1, N2, M5, N7, AND R300

SANRAL proposes the installation CCTV cameras and associated infrastructure along the N1, N2, R300, M5, and N7 within Cape Town for the purposes of operating an Incident Detection and Freeway Management System. 63 CCTV cameras will be installed on steel poles ranging from 11 to 14.8 metre mounting heights or on existing gantries all within the existing road reserves. In order to comply with the necessary environmental regulations, SANRAL has appointed Arcus GIBB (Pty) Ltd as the independent environmental assessment practitioner, to undertake a Basic Assessment process to determine potential environmental impacts associated with the proposed activity.  A Basic Assessment Report (BAR) has been compiled by Arcus GIBB (Pty) Ltd for submission to the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA).

As part of the public participation process, you are invited to provide any comments on the Draft Basic Assessment Report.
