Richards Bay Minerals
Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) proposes to install a 34 megawatt electricity co-generation facility at their iron and titanium slag smelter works located close to Richards Bay. This ‘Co-gen facility’ will consist of a series of multiple waste-gas-fuelled engines that will drive alternators and consequently generate electricity.
The electricity will feed into RBM’s internal distribution systems for internal consumption. As such the facility will significantly contribute to RBM’s efforts to achieve the Eskom-required electricity reduction of 10% consumption from the national electricity grid. The waste-gas is available on a continuous basis at RBM as it is generated as part of the smelting process.
